Soapstone stores more heat for its weight than any other naturally occurring material. It has twice the heat-storing capacity of iron and superior heat retention qualities not found in cast iron (orange line in graph below) or steel (blue line).  Soapstone stoves produce a lasting heat that warms the home steadily and evenly.  As the fire burns, the soapstone absorbs massive amounts of heat, which continues to radiate for hours, long after the fire cools (see the red line below) .
