When properly burned, gas produces heat, carbon dioxide, and water vapor. It produces almost no sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, dissolved solids, or particulate matter. 

And, using supplemental gas hearth appliances to heat only the rooms your family occupies most allows you to turn down the thermostat for the central furnace, decreasing your overall fuel bill.
